No go for Gilday

It was another heartbreaking finish for Yellowknife's Michael Gilday at Speed Skating Canada's Short Track Team Selection event in Vancouver. Gilday had one more chance to punch his ticket to the 2010 Winter Olympics with a win in the final men's 1,500m race on Monday, but came in second, only 15 one-hundredths of a second behind Guillaume Bastille, who did make the team with his win.
Gilday now has to play the waiting game until Aug. 27, when the selection committee will determine who will receive discretionary positions to complete the team. See the next edition of Yellowknifer for a full recap of Gilday's performances.

YELLOWKNIFE- Thirteen one-hundredths of a second.
That was all it took for Yellowknife's Michael Gilday to miss out on a guaranteed spot on the Canadian Olympic short-track speed skating team.
"It's big time disappointment," he said. "To come that close stings. It's disappointing."Gilday was actually in the lead for part of the race, but a slip inside the final two laps of the race gave Quebec's Guillaume Bastille an avenue to jump into the lead he would not relinquish. Gilday said he caught an edge coming out of a turn.
