"The two Canadian sprinters both did well in today's race. And they will be among our tough rivals in next year's Olympics," said Wang, who hinted that the Chinese team had pinned the gold hope on the relay events.

Canada's Jessica Gregg picked up a silver medal and Marianne St-Gelais took home the bronze in the women's 500m short track speed skating event in China on Saturday.

Olympic champ Wang Meng claims 500m title at ISU World Cup Short-Track
BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Reigning Olympic champion Wang Meng of China dominated the women's 500m final to grab the gold at ISU World Cup short-track here on Saturday.

Wang, the 500m winner in 2006 Turin Games, took the lead from the very start of the race and pocketed the gold in 43.430 seconds. Jessica Gregg of Canada notched the silver in 44.241 seconds.

The other two finalists both fell down in the first lap. The bronze went to Canadian skater Marianne St-Gelais, who finished the race in 52.085, while Zhao Nannan of China finished at the bottom.
